手足 [hands and feet]
A co-created, intercultural piece of theatre by Jackson Used and June Wong, interrogating the crackdown on Pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong and the role that Western judges played in legitimising persistent human rights abuses in the Hong Kong legal system.

Ailin Conant - Artistic Director of New Earth Theatre
"Hands and Feet presents a really rare and important insight into the situation that is unfolding in Hong Kong, and we're delighted to be partnering on this project. June's lived experience, insider perspective, and journalistic background provide a thoroughly researched, rich contemporary story, and combining that with a dramaturg of Jackson's skill and experience is a dream. We're excited by the rigour of this project- theatrically, dramaturgically, and journalistically- and can't wait to collaborate with June, Jackson, and Zoo Co to tell the contemporary story of Hong Kongers."

Methodology
Jackson and June are developing their co-creation methodology in response to and collaboration with the artistic practices of New Earth Theatre and Zoo Co. Our aim is to curate a methodology that can incorporate storytelling from non-traditional theatremakers.

Flo O'Mahony - Artistic Director of Zoo Co
"We are really excited to partner creatively on this project with Jackson and June, in collaboration with New Earth. This story is urgent, expansive and important, as well as being strikingly theatrical.
Zoo Co has been actively seeking out stories to express what is happening in our world on a global scale, to tell more expansive cross-cultural stories, and to engage with what is really alive in us most as artists. Hands and Feet presents us with a vehicle for this - one that examines state power, challenges colonialism and pulls the power of the collective into sharp focus.
Through this project, we'll be able to explore the application of our award-winning creative, technical and access practices to a story with international relevance, exploring how this lends itself to a multi-lingual production. I am very excited by the creative synergy, depth of research and artistic integrity of this team, and am thrilled to support June and Jackson's compelling artistic vision."

June Wong (黃六月)
Born and raised in Hong Kong, June Wong has been a writer, researcher, and advocate focused on the storytelling of democratic movements. With work featured in global media outlets, independent advocacy reports, and protest speeches, June uses different storytelling mediums to craft narratives highlighting Hong Kong's fight for freedom. Due to the ongoing crackdown of democratic rights and free speech in Hong Kong, pointing to the specific pieces of work would not only endanger June, but also members of the Hong Kong community and diaspora. For this reason, it is of the utmost importance that June Wong's work remains untraceable.

Jackson is a published playwright from Western Australia, now based in London, who has presented their work internationally. Recent work includes Lilac (2022), Mother May We (2022) and PIT (2020).
